Description

Since 1955, the British Crime Writers' Association (CWA) has presented annual awards for excellence in crime writing. Although categories (and Dagger names) have changed along with crime publishing itself, the CWA has maintained a commitment to identifying the best authors and the best writing in the field. Established in 1999, the Historical Dagger is presented to a novel "with a crime theme and a historical background of any period up to 35 years before the current year." The award was previously known as the Ellis Peters Historical Dagger (1999-2005) and the Ellis Peters Historical Award (2006-2012) in honor of historical crime writer Ellis Peters
