Sylvia Schwartz founded this award in 1976 to commemorate her sister Ruth Schwartz, a noted Toronto bookseller. In 2004, the Schwartz family added Sylvia’s name to the award. Granted to Canadian authors and illustrators who have demonstrated excellence in the field of children’s literature, children from an Ontario public school select the final winners each year
